Each round of the Canada’s Business Model Competition is generally judged using the following questions:

Hypothesis

Test

Validation

NOTE: Because web-based businesses are easier to test, these companies can often pivot faster. Judges are asked to not penalize physical product companies or health-related businesses because they have not performed as much testing and validation as web-based businesses.

Judging Orientation

The  below video can be used by organizers of affiliated competitions to train their judges on the unique evaluation criteria and philosophy that exists within the International Business Model Competition.

The purposes of the video are to:

  1. inform judges about the differences between evaluating a business model competition as opposed to a traditional business plan competition;
  2. create solidarity and a common base of understanding amongst judges; and
  3. maintain consistency and fidelity in the evaluation process.
